The 15th London (Civil Service Rifles) battalion arrived in France in March 1915 and in May, 1915 became part of 140 Brigade, 47th Division. On 13th April they went into the front line for the first time when they took over some trenches at Givenchy close to the La Bassée Canal. They stayed here for the next 48 hours before being relieved and moving back to Bethune. While in these trenches Ronald Pulman was shot in the head by a sniper and died in hospital in Bethune on 17th April. His death was the first fatality for 15th London |
